How to use dialogue

Focuses for writing this week
Explanation in my own words.
Where do speech marks go
Before and after the sentence the person said.
How to put in other punctuation
Any punctuation has to go before the speech mark.
When to start a new line or when to keep writing
When 2 or 3 people are talking.
Different words for ‘said’
Asked, replied, responded, yelled, screamed, shouted, mumbled, said, muttered, gasped, panting, chuckled, thought, told, uttered, continued, whispered
Adding adverbs
Responded politely, asked politely, screamed angrily.

“Who can I pick on?” asked Miss Ashley.
“Me” replied Timote.

“How was your day?” asked Hope.
“Great, thank you” replied Miss Ashley.

“How was your weekend” asked Dwyane.
“It was good” responded Havea.

If more than one person is talking, you put the reply underneath.
Mary was a beautiful girl who was wearing her long black hair in two plaits. She asked her mum, “can I go to the pools today?”.
“Why do you want to go” mum replied.
“It’s hot and I want to cool off”.
“Fine then”

If it’s only one person, you keep going.
Little red riding hood walked along the dirt path and thought to herself “I’m getting hungry”. She had walked a looooonng way but the thought of warm apple pie when she got to grandma’s house kept her going.

“Hi Vaiola how was your day?’’said Hope

“Amazing, how was your day Syariah-lee?” Asked Vaiola

“My day was great, thank you for asking” Replied syraiahlee
“What are you doing today Hope” Asked syraiahlee

“OOHH I am really busy because I need to go school then after school I need to go to the gym and then I need to look after my baby sister. How about you Vaiola?”

“Its good but really it busy because we have to go to school then we have to walked back home which is ’real far’. Hope what time do you go to the gym?”

“KNOW!! because I have to leave at 10:40 cause it starts at 11:00”

Twinkle Twinkle star colours

Start here: one beautiful bright sunny day there was a man named Joseph. Joseph went hiking and he found a waterfall with a vine hanging down it.

Joseph took his bag and his shoes and socks off and went to grab onto the vine and swang onto it. He had lots of fun.

The magician's elephant

Peter stood outside the tent feeling sad and lonely. Peter was wondering if he should spend the money that he got from the chief to buy some bread and fish. Peter was anxious about if he should go to the fortune teller or to go to buy some fish and bread.

Peter had to decide not to or to do it, Peter had a difficult choice to make and he was scared to face the consequences when he shows up at the apartment with empty hands. He thought to himself if he should lie or if he shouldn’t. After awhile of thinking he thought that he would tell the truth and face the consequences.

Peter followed his heart and he went into the fortune teller’s tent to ask her a question about his family. The fortune teller told him that his sister was alive and it kept on repeating in his mind “ she lives, she lives, she lives”.

Today Room 7 learnt how to play "twinkle twinkle little star". on the virtual piano. ( online piano.)
At the same time we learned "this old man". we had to learn the twinkle twinkle little star and then we had to learn how to play this old man.

Narrative plan

Brainstorm of ideas:
Car crash, people inside the car, fire fighters, not looking, fire-fighters, man was driving then suddenly he crashed into a pole, speeding, different kinds of services - police and ambulance. Flipped,
See - people standing around, glass on the ground, windshield or windscreen,  stop traffic, upside down, airbags, fire extinguishers,
smell/hear - gasoline or petrol or oil, smoke, sirens, people talking

Drunk driver, John Cena, 60 year old man,
Car crash
A witness calls the ambulance, police and fire service
No glasses so couldn’t see
injuries - broken arm, broken ribs, brain damage, cuts
Fire fighters use jaws of life to get the person out and save them. They cut the car in half.
On the phone
Petrol leak, and the engine was gonna blow up, so the whole car was gonna blow up.
Fire extinguisher, put saw dust on the petrol, get the people out first before it explodes.
Distracting - picking something up, or changing the radio station.

The crash!!

Playing fortnite- little boy poured water on the plug.

Little boy - craig. Blonde hair, 1 metre high, 8 years old, freckles, brown eyes, short curly hair, fortnite t shirt, drinking water, laughed and dropped the cup, or got angry, screamed.

Fire in the house
One sunny beautiful Saturday Craig was playing Fornite with his friend Jack. They had been playing all day long.
Craig was a 8 year old boy with blonde, curly hair and chocolate brown eyes. He was wearing his favourite turquoise Fornite shirt and seafoam pants. Jack was 9 and had jet black hair and bright blue eyes. The two boys were playing Fornite in the lounge at Craig’s house. The lounge looked like a pigsty, with stinky socks, pizza boxes and mountain dew cans everywhere.
Craig was sooo engrossed in his game. He leapt out of the bus, pressed X and landed on one of the houses. Craigs thumbs and fingers were starting to ache from playing for sooo long without a break. Jack thought a glass of water might wake him up, so he went to get his friend a cool glass of icy water. He was just strolling back into the messy lounge, when he heard Craig scream “OHHH YEAH HEADSHOT!”. It gave Jack such a fright that he dropped the glass of water, and “Oh no!” he screamed, it tipped straight onto the electrical plug. Craig sniffs “sniff sniff”, “I can smell smoke, is the oven on?”. Jack yells “THERE’S A FIRE, HELP!”. Craig finally looks up from his game to see that the PS4 caught on fire! Craig thought to himself “Dang it, I was about to win!”. The two boys rushed outside leaving all their valuables behind.
Jack ran to the neighbours house and asked to borrow Lucy’s phone. “HELP HELP OUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE!”. Craig could hear the sirens of the fire engines getting closer and closer. Jack and Craig tried to comfort each other, but they were panicking so much and couldn’t hear each other over the sirens and blaring smoke alarms. The firetrucks arrived and extinguish the flames in 1 long hour.
The two boys felt depressed. Their game was over, and they didn’t win. And now… their house was destroyed.

Bouncy castle

One day room 7 went outside and we saw a big bouncy castle and we went to it. We went to it because a student named milan joined the weet bix thing and then he put his name in the box and they called out his name and he won.

The whole school got to play on it for half an hour even the seniors had to play on it. The bouncy castle was next to the bike track and were all the bikes are. It wasn’t a race but we still made it a race. I raced paula and he beat me to the finish 3 times. After that i raced other people so that i didn't have to lose.

We had to take off our shoes first and our socks and then we had to make 2 lines so that we could race each other. Then they told us the instructions about what we can’t  do on the bouncy castle. So then after that we had to wait in line and then we had to wait at the bouncy castle for the other people that already went on to finish and hop off.

When it was my turn i had to go through the 2 beams that were stuck together then i had to go through the big fridges, then i had to climb up some ladders and then jump into the washing machine then make it to the finish line.

It was fun and i hope that we can go on it again one day.

The sun

The sun
The sun is very hot and if anyone tried to go on it then they would die because the sun is to hot for anyone.

About the sun
The sun is made of a big ball of hydrogen gas. The sun is in the center of our solar system and it produces light and heat for the other planets and for earth. The sun is not a planet it is a star. The sun is the biggest star in our solar system but compared to the other suns our one is a dwarf sun.

What makes the sun very hot?
In the center of the sun there is the sun's core and the core it is the hottest part of the sun not the surface but the core. You might think that the surface is the hottest part but it isn’t.

Why is the sun so big?
The reason why the sun is so big is because the sun has a bigger mass. Mass means that because it is big it has a bigger gravity and because the rocky planets are small than they have a small gravity. The sun rotates but it does not orbit around it just stays there and rotates.

The sun is also called sol and it produces solar energy which makes light and heat. The sun makes solar flares which goes up and than it goes back down because of the gravity.

Why do we have seasons?

Watch the video and go on the websites to find answers to the questions below.

How many times a year does the earth go around the sun.

One orbit around the sun is one year.
Which way does the sun appear to move across the sky?
What hemisphere is New Zealand in?

New zealand is in the southern hemisphere.

What months do we have spring in?

They are September - November.
Write two paragraphs about your favourite season in the space below.
My favourite season is winter because i get to be covered in warm as blankets and i get to have hot chocolate and i get to sleep in more and other people get to make snowmen but nz doesn’t have any snow.

Why are our seasons at different times of the year to other parts of the world?
The seasons are at different times because when the northern hemisphere is facing the sun than tht side would be summer and the other side  that doesn't have any light it would be winter.
If New Zealand is in summer, what season would it be in North america?

It would be cold in north america because the sun is not facing towards the country.
What is the axis?

An invisible line that goes through the earth.

The sun is a star that is part of our solar system. The sun sits at the centre of the solar system, it is orbited by 8 planets which rotate at the same time. The sun is the biggest part of our solar system, but it’s small compared to other suns in other systems. The sun does not move because it’s a star.

What is the sun made of?
The sun is made of energy. The sun produces energy, called solar energy which can be used to power homes on Earth. The core is the hottest part of the sun, it is 27 million degrees F*/15 million degrees C*. It’s made of Hydrogen gas which is sometimes known as Hg.

Crossing the bridge

On Saturday the 16th of March 1852, there was a farmer and her brown and white cow. The farmer’s name was called Peaches. On their farm in auckland the farmer decided to take her cow bessie to the market.

First the farmer Peaches got her cow and tried to get the cow to move “ come on Bessie.” she said as she was struggling to pull Bessie. Peaches grabbed her coins and she went to William Johnsen the toll keeper. She gave William Johnson 1 coin for her and 1 for her cow.

“Evening Johnson” she said as she was waiting to cross the bridge.

William johnson took the money and said “thank you very much, enjoy your day.” William Johnson used his strength to turn the winch so that the farmer could go through the bridge and go to the market. The farmer and the cow got to the market and the farmer got the bucket and milked the cow to sell the milk to the villagers.

The farmer looked and looked to see if anyone was coming to get some milk. But then she saw one person in line to see if it tasted nice. So she gave the nice lady some milk and she said “ WOOPHE!!!, that's the best milk i've ever tasted.” so she bought some milk and took it to her kids and they shared the milk together. After she left she told everyone about the milk and there was a whole line of people waiting to get some milk. Then he got to the last person and there was no one else in the line. So she packed up all her stuff and took her cow home.

Then they got home and they jumped straight on to their beds and went to sleep.
